Description: Growth-defective mutant; impaired cell growth results in pleiotropic effects in almost every aspect of cell development but particularly in cell elongation; defective vascular tissue differentiation (twisted vascular tissue); ectopic deposition of suberin around twisted vascular bundles; de-etiolated phenotype (retardation in hypocotyl elongation enables growth and development in darkness and consequent continuation of shoot development and flowering); sterile plants; dwarf phenotype (cannot be rescued by treatment with exogenous growth regulators); unable to grow in soil.
